Gustave Fayet: Collector – Designer. Icons of Modern Art

The Fondation's next "Icons of Modern Art" show, following earlier exhibitions on the Shchukin, Morozov and Courtauld collections, fills every gallery in the building. It reunites more than 250 works from Fayet's long-dispersed collection for the first time in a century, including 10 paintings by Van Gogh, 78 works by Gauguin and 88 by Redon, alongside Degas, Cézanne, Toulouse-Lautrec, Renoir, Morisot, Signac, Bonnard, Vuillard and Matisse. The headline loan is Van Gogh's Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear, unseen in France since 1937, hung beside Gauguin's Self-Portrait with a Palette. The top floor turns to Fayet's own work as a designer: ceramics, watercolours on blotting paper, rugs, illustrated books and restored dresses linked to Poiret, Doucet and Lanvin.
